Don't take a good resume for Granted, CHECK THEM OUT!


I started protection Plus Solutions when my mother needed help after she had taken a nasty fall in 2009. Mother has diabetes and neuropathy in her feet, she had taken her Shitzu’s the dog park in San Francisco at 11am on a Sunday, and I got a call at midnight from Kaiser telling me that she was still unconscious! Three weeks later and lots of physical therapy she was ready to go home.

Home for her was compromising 12 stairs to get to her front door and she needed constant care for at least six months or longer. So, my sister and I put out a placement ad describing her needs in the SF Chronicle and on Craigslist. We had five really great applicants and one gentleman in particular stood out. His resume was incredible and had phone numbers to back up his already outstanding credentials.

But as the old saying goes if something looks too good it probably isn't. Well, thank heavens I ran a background check. This man had recently been released from state prison in Texas for elder abuse against his own mother, and to make matters worse had a large restitution order for embezzlement against her! I contacted the state parole board in Texas and also the San Francisco police department to report my findings.

But, what could have happened if I hadn’t run a background check?
