DALLAS—AT&T has announced plans to bring its home security/home automation offering to Atlanta and Dallas this summer.
Called Digital Life, the offering will be professionally installed and professionally monitored from AT&T owned and operated 24/7 monitoring stations, the company said in a May 7 news release.
Calls and emails requesting interviews and comments from AT&T were not returned by May 9.
Connected devices offered will include cameras, window, door, smoke and carbon monoxide sensors, thermostats and appliance power controls.
Security Systems News reported in December 2011 that AT&T planned to come to Atlanta, where its new Digital Life Services division will be based.
Details on the products AT&T will be using are few, but in April 2011, SSN reported that AT&T was terminating its Xanboo dealer agreement.
According to the recent news release on Digital Life:
--The devices will be wirelessly enabled to connect to the IP-based AT&T Digital Life platform inside the home. The system will “contain a user interface application, which allows customers to customize a solution based on individual needs, and the ability to manage and control their services from the U.S. or while traveling abroad.”

--The service will be sold through “AT&T distribution channels, including AT&T company-owned retail stores.” It will also be available for online purchase after the trial period.

--The system includes “built-in AT&T mobile Internet service and will also be capable of Wi-Fi, Z-Wave, and wired broadband connections."
--During the trial period, subscribers can “use their own wired broadband solution with the Digital Life system and can access the service and remotely control the products from smartphones, tablets and PCs, regardless of carrier.”

I think it's great that AT&T is joining Comcast and other telecom companies to promote Home Security Services. BUT.. Let there be a WARNING to the consumer. Most of these Fortune 5 companies contract this work out! The Sales Reps and the Installers are not AT&T or Comcast employees, they're contractors.
Who's making sure that these contractors are clear to enter someone's home?? Who's following up to insure that they're background checked thoroughly?
Protection Plus Solutions, a premier background screening company tailored around the home services industry can do just that, insure that sales reps and technicians are thoroughly background checked. Not only do they provide a thorough background check they also monitor your sales reps and technicians every month with their signature background screening product called CrimSPY. CrimSPY ID badging system will notify your company if there is a criminal hit after hire, not a year later.
Their ID badging system is both virtual and hard copy, so customers can verify first hand who's at their door or who's just entered their house. If criminal activity does occur after hire the virtual ID badge will show FAILED alerting them that the rep or technician is not authorized to enter their home or office.
BadgeLINK, another Protection Plus Solutions product allows their virtual ID badging system to be placed on your company’s website for FREE if you’re using their background screening products.
You should contact them today for an online tutorial; your customers will LOVE you for it!

City to require Door to Door Sales Reps be ID badged!!

HUNTSVILLE, Alabama -- Commercial salespeople going door-to-door in Huntsville could soon be required to submit to a background check and carry a city-issued photo identification badge.
City Council President Mark Russell said the proposal is meant to provide residents some protection against overzealous salespeople who won't take no for an answer. "We've been approached by people who are feeling unsafe on their own property because of these solicitors," Russell said Monday. "Police have said that there's not much they can do about it right now."
Under the proposed ordinance, only commercial salespeople and professional fundraisers would have to apply to the city for a solicitation permit -- not Girl Scouts, religious groups, political candidates or children participating in school fund drives. Employees and officers representing charitable groups also are exempt.

The ordinance requires door-to-door salespeople or master solicitors representing larger groups to provide a current background report, including any criminal history.
Ex-convicts and parolees would be automatically disqualified. So would anyone recently convicted of a felony or a misdemeanor crime of "moral turpitude." Those who pass the background check and pay an application fee to be determined by the city clerk-treasurer's office would be given a solicitor's permit and photo ID tag. According to the ordinance, the badge would have to be "worn constantly ... in a conspicuous place" while going door-to-door.

"It just basically gives us a little more knowledge of who's out here soliciting," Huntsville police Sgt. Mark Roberts said Monday. "And if you get too many complaints from the public, it gives us the ability to take your license away. "We really haven't had that before," Roberts said.
If the ordinance passes, salespeople could not knock on doors before 8 a.m. or after sunset. Any home with a "No Solicitation" sign in the yard would be off-limits. Violators could be fined up to $500 and sentenced to as much as six months in jail. Michele Mason, CEO of the North Alabama Better Business Bureau, said her organization is "definitely in favor" of background checks on roving salespeople. Mason said there are numerous cases of Huntsville residents being misled by door-to-door salespeople, including a company that failed to deliver magazines bought for U.S. soldiers serving overseas. The permit process "may be a little bit of a nuisance," she said Monday, "but it's hopefully a deterrent for those we don't really want going door-to-door in the neighborhoods."

City Council members have scheduled a work session for 6 p.m. Thursday to discuss the proposal.

Protection Plus Solutions has some fabulous "new products" for the "door to door sales industry" in 2012. One in particular is our ID badging system that we've taken to the next level that provides the safest and most secure background screening solutions.
